Demo saved games working in the full version
Unfortunately, the demo saved game files will not be transferrable to the full version. There have been a lot of changes to the gameplay and the code in the game, and they won't mix.
Here's how to install the Septerra Core patch:
1. To install the Septerra Core patch, make a temporary folder on your desktop and place the downloaded .EXE file inside it.
2. Enter the temporary folder and double-click on the .EXE file extract the files into the temporary folder.
3. Once the extraction process is done, close the DOS box and run the Setup.exe icon that is now inside the temporary folder to automatically install the patch.
4. When the installation process is complete, you can delete the temporary folder on your desktop to get rid of the unnecessary files and you're done!
Enter your Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstall QuickTime, then head to www.quicktime.com and download and install the latest version of QT4 and see if that helps.
Or, if you've already got the latest version of QT4 installed, open the Quicktime applet in your Control Panel, select "Video Settings" from the drop-down menu, and uncheck the box for "Enable Direct Draw Acceleration".
Click on the executable in an Explorer window and drag it to the desktop; you now have a shortcut. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties from the popup menu. At the end of the Target line, after the quotes, add a space, then add -w.
Click on the Septerra executable (septerra.exe) in an Explorer window and drag it to the desktop; you now have a shortcut. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties from the popup menu. At the end of the Target line, after the quotes, add a space, then add -s.
That will make the game run with no sound. Once you run the game, it should run OK. If it does, you need new sound card drivers. Once you install the latest ones, reinstall DirectX from here and you should be OK.
Combat with the Mining Helgak does not end
This was a bug with the 1.0 version of the game. As soon as the "beam stalks" explode, select a party member and do something to another party member - give them bread, cast a healing spell, shoot them if you like. This will cause the combat to end normally. This should be done fairly quickly as delaying too long will cause a side-effect of the bug to wipe out your gold reserves.
You can also download the 1.02 patch to fix this problem.
This was a bug with the 1.0 version of the game. Neither Corgan nor Led can be in the party while the gas masks are necessary.
This bug has also been addressed with the new 1.02 patch.
Monster Fusion video card problems
Try getting the newest drivers from here, then reinstall DirectX from here. This should fix the problem.
Try and enter the C:\Windows\Temp folder and delete all the files out of the folder, then explore the Septerra CD and run the Setup.EXE icon. That should help!
Try and delete the Level.DB file from your Septerra folder on your PC, then explore the Septerra CD and copy the same file from there, back into your Septerra folder on your PC. That should help.
You can find a full walkthrough of the game at www.corefactor.com.
"Unrecoverable error 38" information
Error 38 indicates that the savegame file is badly corrupted - there is, unfortunately, no recovery from this error other than to restart from a different savegame.
